The books are narrated from the perspective
of Dogmatix, with big text and simplistic storylines. Although
the names of Goscinny and Uderzo appear up on the cover it
appears neither of them much involvement with the books. The
illustrations are not drawn in an Uderzo style and appear
very cartoonish. The books were all published by Hodder Causton
and translated by Frances Verner (interesting because all
other Asterix works were translated into English by Anthea
Bell and Derek Hockridge).
The stories also make simple mistakes which
contradict the official Asterix stories. For instance, in
"Dogmatix and the Storm" it says that "Obelix's
cousin from Brittany arrived on our doorstep" (no
such person is known to exist) while the picture shows Anticlimax
- Asterix's cousin from Britain.
These stories will entertain younger readers
but for Adult Asterix fans they are purely for collecting
purposes. All the books are very rare and hard to find.
