Asterix and the Banquet Mistakes

General

Gracchus Armisurplus

"Gracchus Armisurplus"

In Asterix the Gladiator the Centurion in charge of Compendium is Gracchus Armisurplus. In Asterix and the Banquet, which follows immediately on from Gladitaor, the Centurion in charge is called Lotuseatas. These two look exactly the same. It would seem strange to have two different Centurions one after the other who look exactly the same! The Offiicial Asterix Site has confirmed that this is the same person in both books.

Lotuseatus

"Lotuseatus"

Possible Explanation: The books were not translated and published in English in order, but all over the place. So Asterix the Gladiator was published in English in 1969 while Asterix and the Banquet wasn't published until ten years later. This meant they weren't translated one after another so Gladiator would not have been used as a reference.

The Sick Bay seems to have moved and changed colours from page 5 to page 7. GPC adds: "Not only that but the 'roof' end changes from triangular to rounded shape!"

Misprint
The 2004 re-edition of Asterix and the Banquet has a rather confusing misprint.

Historical Inaccuracies
Asterix is shown here pealing potatoes on page 6. Potatoes were introduced to europe in the 16th Century from South America. They can't possibly have been in Ancient Gaul at the time. This is a major faux pas of the authors as Potatoes have appeared in other Asterix books too.
